It was fond out that , Egyptians were the first to build & command ships ...this canbe clearly deduced from paranoiac engravings. The ancient Egyptian fleet reached its peak during the era of ThotmosIII (1411 B.C.) who spread his influence over all countries of the Mediterranean. These victories continued during Ramses II era (1292 B.C.) who sent out a large fleet to take over both the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. During the Islamic era the Egyptian fleet seized the islands of the Mediterranean,also the victory of the Egyptian fleet in cooperation with "El Sham" fleet in the battle of "Zat El-Swary" (654 A.C.). In the sixteenth century the Egyptian fleet was part of the Ottoman fleet in most of its battles especially in seizing the island of Crete and in securing the naval routes between the Egyptian ports and the Arab Peninsula. The reign of mohammed ali was the golden age for the egyptian fleet as 3 shipsyards were built. The fleet had 24 pieces with large frigates which could carry thousands of sailors and more than a hundred guns. The Egyptian fleet was the third among the fleets of the greatest countries. After World War II a declaration was issued to establish the naval forceson June 30 1946.

A group of light British boats wew bought for the newly born fleet . Also the Naval College was established on modern criteria from which trained officers could graduate to command the naval fleet. The first batch was fifty cadets in October 1946. The Egyptian fleet fought the Palestinian war in 1948 against the enemy and during the war of 1967 managed to sink the Israeli destroyer Eilat using the naval rockets .Also two Israeli submarines were sunk : Taneen in 1967 and Dackar in 1968. In Octobers war 1973, the Egyptian fleet played an indespensable role : cutting the oil supplying routes, blocking the Bab El-Mandeb strait, mining the Red sea routes, and also launching a number of naval raids against the enemy using missile boats.

Alot of improvments have been interoduced to the fleet, ever since president Mubarak took office , modern frigates and destroyes from China and Spain and the states were added to the fleet . as well , Egyptian submarines were fitted with modern armament systems, and later the Egyptian fleet was supplied with the American frigates of type Nox and Perry with their modern capabilities.
