THE ROLE OF THE (EAF) IN OCTOBER WAR 1973

The zero hour was set to be the 1400 on October 1973, few were informed about it, 220 Mig Aircraft/ 17 -Mig/12- Sukhway/ 7- T.U/ 16- LU Henter Hocker 28 Commanders took off from different Air Bases in order to be over their targets at the same time.
The aircraft engines were moved, shelter gates were opened & the Aircraft took off like arrows & flew over the enemy's fortification posts , headquarters, air fields and rocket batteries.
The intensive Air strike was completed & achieved results that
astounded the whole world.
The most important outcome was:
Striking the enemy's headquarters on Aum Murgem.
Striking The enemy's electronic jamming installations on Aum Khushaib.
Striking the enemy's radar installations.
Striking the enemy's Hock rocket batteries, attacking the air bases & airfields in which the enemy’s Phantom, Miraj & Sky Hock were centered.
Striking the heavy Anti Aircraft guns enemy positions.
Striking the enemy's tactical grouping of the army ground forces.

The following record numbers were achieved during the air battles:-
Most pilots achieved 7 sorties daily & this was a world record.
Some Aircraft fought off several air raids without landing.
Unprecedented world record time of outfitting and restarting of the Aircraft was set.
Not a single Airport was stopped for more than (6-8hrs), although it was
bombarded consecutively in the mornings for 7/10 days when the enemy
bombarded all our Airbases in order to paralyze them.
In 1973 Some pilots jumped with parachutes when their aircraft was hit ,
however ; they continued their combat missions the same day.
A Mig17 Aircraft shot down a Phantom aircraft.
A Helicopter shot down a Phantom  as a way of regaining the self- esteem
the enemy conducted the operation.

THE MOST PROMINENT BATTLES The Air Force Day  
 In the 14th of October  the Air Force achieved one of its greatest victories Where the dvancement of its pilots was prominent in one of the longest & most vicious war combat that went on for fifty minutes with over than 200 Fighter Aircraft involved.
In this war the enemy lost 18 Phantom Aircraft & 2 Israeli Pilots  were captivated So isn't it our right to consider this day as the Air Force Day? The History will always remember that the 1973 Air Force Commander Maj. General.
Mohammed Hosny Mubarak, through good planning, discipline, the right choice of his assistants, Air Formations Commanders & the excellent Forces  Fight Command, has succeeded in achieving victory & Air Control along  the whole operations days.

The 102 Fighter Air Wing
The air wing participated in the first intensive air strike and fought
off the enemy’s intensive air attacks against the Delta airfields with
the cooperation of the 104 air wing .
The air wing protected the army ground forces and the military
targets in Port Said with the cooperation of the 104 air wing.
With the cooperation of the other fighter air wings, the air wing
protected the fighter bombers and the ground forces in the Gap from the enemy's air attacks .

The enemy’s losses :
 Striking 20 enemy aircraft .
The 104 Fighter Air Wing

The air wing participated in the first intensive air strike by securing the
fighter bombers and fought off the enemy’s intensive air attacks with the
cooperation of the 102 air wing.
The air wing also took part in securing and protecting the troops and the
military targets in Port Said , alleviating the pressure on the Air Dffense
means defending the city.
The air wing protected the fighter bombers and the ground forces in the
Gap from the enemy’s air attacks with the cooperation of the other fighter air wings.

The 203 Fighter Bomber Air Wing
The air wing participated in the air control strikes and the Air
Defense operations by supperting the fight actions of the 104 air wing .

The enemy’s losses :-
     Neutralizing 2 runways and 2 bypasses .
     Silencing 1 long-range artillery post .
     Destroying 31 tanks and 25 armoured vehicles .
     Attacking 2 strongpoints .
     Downing and striking 7 enemy aircraft .
     Destroying a pontoon bridge .
     Drowning a torpedo boat .
 
The 205 Fighter Bomber Air Wing
The air wing participated in the air control strikes and offered air
suppport to the army ground forces .

The enemy's losses:
     Neutralizing 2 runways and 2 bypasses .
     Silencing 2 Hock Rocket posts .
     Destroying 2 leadyuartey .
     Destroying 172 tanks and 25 armoured vehicles .
     Downing and striking 2 enemy aircraft .
 
The 306 Fighter Bomber Air Wing
 The air wing participated in the air control strikes and offered air
 support to the army ground forces .

 The enemy's losses:
      Silencing & hock rocket posts .
      Silencing 1 field artillery post .
      Destroying 2 headquarters .
      Destroying 69 tanks and 30 armoured vehicles .
      Destroying 1oil depository and 1 ammunition depot .
      Downing and striking 6 enemy aircraft .
