1-During World War II:

The Egyptian Air Defence Artillery , in cooperation with the corrosponding British Forces, took part in defending the vital targets in World War II and intercepted the Italian Aircraft attacking the sea port of Alexandria during the night Jun.21st,22nd 1940. They  forced them to flee without causing any damages . On the 8th,June, 1941 the Air Defence Artillery intercepted the German Aircraft attacking the sea port of Alex. And on 19th , June ,1941 they shot down and   Italian reconnaissance Aircraft  over the area of Dekhila. Admiral / Andro Kaningham, the Commander of the British Fleet in Alex. recorded in the British Navy Operation “thanks to the competence and the bravery of the Egyptian Anti-aircraft Artillery, Alex. Sea port was never closed in front of the British Mediterranean Fleet for more than one day.  

2-During Palestine War:

The Air Defence Artillery also played an important role in the Palestine War  in 1948 The Anti aircraft artillery took part in protecting the Egyptian Army against the Israeli air forces. Besides, it played a positive role using guns in destroying ground targets support to land troops.

3-During the Tripartite Aggression in 1956

The Air Defence Artillery fought  courageously, and their assets were used as anti-aircraft and coastal artillery in addition to shooting at ground targets. It is worth mentioning some of the foriegn comments on the  performance of the Air Defence Artillery in the aggression.

A) British Gen./ Charles Kitly and his Air Force Commander, Air Marshal Barnit said that the Air Defence Artillery Units in the area of the Suez Canal was one of the most important elements that hindered the operations.
B) The military historian Edgar Oblans commented that “Air Defence Artillery Units performance went beyond the performance of all other services.

4-During the Attrition War:

The Air Defence Forces played an important role in preventing the Enemy Air Forces from acquiring the information through the air  reconnaissance, and providing protection to the ground forces and vital targets in  depth. The Air Defence Forces caused massive casualties to the Israeli Air Force  during  the Attrition War.  

The battle of the Green Island /( on the Suez Gulf ) on Jul. 28th, 1969, was a  distinguished mark . A small number of air defence men defeated the Enemy’s Seaborne  and Airborne Forces attacking them from many directions and destroying (3) Landing boats, the Air Defence Post  also destroyed a Mirage aircraft and caused damages to another helicopter, a matter that testifies for the courage of  Egyptian officer in  defending his country .

5-The Establishment Of Missiles Defence Line

On Jun.30th, 1970, The Air defence  men established the famous Missiles Defence Line     to the West of the Suez Canal, even though  the official Israeli policy at that time was to deprive the Egyptian missiles net (SAM ) from being  established to the West of the Suez Canal . When the Missiles Defence Line turned out to be a  concrete fact, it became a turning point in the history of the Air Defence Forces .

6-The Proper Planning Enabled the Air Defence Forces

To shoot down the electronic reconnaissance aircraft (stratocruiser ), the most expensive aircraft owned by  Israel at that time. This was executed through SAM Missiles ambushes on  Sep.17th,1970 .

7-During October War, 1973

Air Defence forces participated in the deception plan before the Oct. war surprising and  preventing the enemy from obtaining information through air reconnaissance on the East  bank of Suez Canal. Air Defence forces were an effective element in enabling the Israelis from taking any action that may frustrate our troops during the first hours of the  war.

The Air Defence Forces fought courageously and amputated the long arm of the Enemy Air Force and deprived it from providing support to its ground forces. Moreover, the    Egyptian Air Defence Forces provided protection for the friendly ground forces and the vital targets in the depth of the country during the War period .
